Elegant Moments
Giant pecan trees framed the scene
a window of fallen leaves, broken
twigs, and ripples shimmering
on the lake.
Moonbeams illuminated the foot
prints leading away from the lake
and into the unknown dangers
of the forest.
Glorious Things
Under the shady oak, we listen to
Childhood secrets
A friend tells us his hopes
And dreams
Comfort comes knowing we
Will not laugh or cry when those
Dreams are shattered.
Peace hold strong
Unlikely friends comfort us.
A not-so-peaceful night of
Waiting approaches.
We listen for the inevitable news.
As the shade lengthens
this Sunday afternoon, a child is born.
Peacefully, she rest in her mother’s arms.
Things in the Sky
He dances around the truth.
I sit in the center and know.
He crosses the line of respect
That can never be mended.
Why was it necessary to lie?
A fading star, an unfulfilled hope.
Why must he destroy my dreams?
The Mother of God
She refuses to believe it was all a lie.
She walks every day to the shrine.
Holy Mary, Mother of God, blessed art thou among women.
Her footprints show determination as well as dedication and commitment.
Under the shade of oaks, she kneels in front of the
blue folds rippling softly until they are set in aged stone.
Pray for us sinners, now and at the hour of our death.
She listens to the squirrels chattering, her heart quickening with pulses
she does not understand.
Hail Mary, full of grace, blessed art thou among women.
She refuses to believe it was all a lie.
Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with thee.
Blessed art thou among women, and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus.
Holy Mary, mother of God, pray for us sinners, now and at the hour of our death. Amen.
